Heartland Trust Company was founded in 1990 in Fargo, ND, as an independent trust company, offering an alternative to traditional bank trust departments. Steve Halverson, our founder, left the trust department of a large regional bank due to concerns that decisions impacting clients were being made at distant corporate headquarters, prioritizing bank profits over client needs. He believed this approach lacked the personal connection and respect that should be central to the trust and investment industry.
As a locally owned and independent trust company, we take pride in making all client-related decisions locally, with the involvement of our employees and board of directors who live and work in the same community.
